Car Toys - Hidden Charges
Took my 2012 Silverado to my local Cartoys to replace my factory stereo with a Panasonic flatscreen they were running a $199.00 sale on. I knew that the installation would be about $100-$125 as stated on their website.
Before the work was to begin, I asked what the total cost would be and was shocked when stated $860.00.
I asked where the additional charges were coming from and they said that it needed an "install kit" and "converters" to change over the factory wiring. While I do believe that additional equipment is needed as not all vehicles are the same, this in no way accounts for the 100s in additional costs.
Reason of review: Pricing issue.

Picked out a basic $139 receiver for my Prius commuter box. Was then told installation was going to cost $340 for 'special' wiring kit and labor.
Did some research online and found I could buy the full kit for steering wheel controls and wiring harness adapter for under $50 retail.
Did the work myself in an afternoon. Won't be back.
